At Good Food Oxfordshire, we are proud to be a part of the Waste Innovation Station (WISH) partnership, a county-wide community initiative dedicated to building the infrastructure needed for the UK’s first truly circular economy. Over the past year, WISH has brought together more than 30 organisations with a shared vision: to shift behaviours around waste and consumption, making reuse, repair, repurposing, and surplus shopping the norm.
We're proud to share the Year 1 Impact Report, showcasing what this partnership has achieved in the first year.
Key Achievements:
-
Engaging nearly 20,000 people directly through events and initiatives
-
Reaching over 100,000 people online with educational content and awareness campaigns
-
Restoring and connecting communities to over 4,000 square metres of green space
-
Diverting almost 500 tonnes of waste from landfill
-
Preventing the equivalent of over 1,000 tonnes of CO2e greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere
These figures are a testament to the power of collective action and the importance of embedding circular economy principles into our everyday lives.
The WISH baseline survey has provided valuable insights that reinforce the WISH theory of change:
Spending time in nature increases people’s sense of connectedness to the natural world
A stronger connection to nature is linked to more sustainable shopping behaviours
Well-being improves when individuals feel socially and environmentally connected, and when barriers to climate action are reduced
At Good Food Oxfordshire, we have led several impactful campaigns that align with WISH’s goals of reducing waste and promoting sustainability. Switch Up Your Lunch encourages people to make more sustainable food choices, while our Pumpkin Festival raises awareness about food waste by celebrating delicious ways to use up surplus pumpkins. These initiatives not only educate but also empower individuals to take practical steps towards reducing waste and consumption.
