We're thrilled that Oxford Brookes University signed the Good Food Charter last month. Here's what their staff magazine had to say.
A charter, which focuses on healthy, fair and environmentally sustainable food for all, was signed by Brookes on 14 August.
The Good Food Charter ‘sets out a vision for a vibrant food culture in Oxford – for healthy people and environment, lively communities, and a prospering local economy’ (Good Food Oxford). The full Charter can be viewed
here.
Janet Beer, Vice-Chancellor, said about signing the Charter:
"As the first Fairtrade University in the world and the first MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certified University in the UK we are proud to support the principles and practises of the Oxford Good Food Charter and continue our commitment to fair and sustainable food at Brookes."
Hannah Jacobs, Good Food Oxford Co-ordinator, said:
"Food is at the heart of so many of today’s biggest challenges, from climate change to chronic illnesses to poverty. Obesity and food waste are rife in the UK, but at the same time food prices are climbing and there are record levels of people having to use food banks. Good Food Oxford is helping to bring attention to all of the brilliant organisations, businesses and individuals in the city working to create a better food system for us all, and we're thrilled to have Oxford Brookes University on board."
Besides selling Fairtrade products and MSC certified fish in our catering outlets, our poultry is Red Tractor assured, our eggs are free range and our milk is organic.
By signing the Oxford Good Food Charter, Oxford Brookes University joins over 60 organisations across Oxford who have committed to a better food system. The signing of the Charter took place in The Lounge in the John Henry Brookes Building and was attended by Janet Beer (Vice-Chancellor), Hannah Jacobs (Good Food Oxford Coordinator), Julian Cottee (Chair of Good Food Oxford), Jonathan Warhurst (Brookes Restaurant Operations Manager), Gillian Almond (Commercial Director), Sebastian Blake (Sustainability Assistant, Sustainability Team) and Wendy Vrij (Marketing and Communications Officer, Sustainability Team).
